RNC Arrest Man in Downtown Stabbing

(St. John’s, NL), September 5, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit has arrested and charged a man in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred on George Street this past Friday morning.

On Friday, September 1, 2017 at approximately 3:15 am, officers with Patrol Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Police Dog Services, and Forensic Identifications Services responded to reports of a disturbance on George Street. Multiple callers to 911 reported that a man had assaulted several people with a knife. The man fled on foot prior to police arriving on scene and was not located.

Three people reported having been injured during the altercation and were not believed to have been known to the unknown man. It is believed that at least three individuals were attempting to subdue the man during the incident when they were injured. Two of the three male victims were taken to hospital and have since been released.

22 year old Corey EVANS of Mount Pearl was arrested on Sunday evening without incident and was held overnight. He was seen in Provincial Court yesterday morning on the following charges: Aggravated Assault; and Assault with a Weapon (x3).
