RNC Apprehend Man Carrying Weapon In Metro

(St. John’s, NL), August 30, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services (OPS) arrested a male carrying multiple weapons over the weekend.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, August 29, 2021, officers responded to the area of Canada Drive in St. John’s in relation to a report that a male had attacked a person with a weapon, and a second report of potential property damage.

On arrival, officers located a male in the area fitting the description of the suspect carrying a long object in one hand. On approach, officers observed the male was carrying a machete style weapon in one hand and a smaller knife in the other. As the patrol officers communicated with the male, he refused to drop the weapons. The officers were successful in detaining the male a short time later.

As a result of the investigation in to the event, the 38-year-old male from St. John’s was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, public mischief, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. He was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
