RNC and CHANNAL Promote Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 1 – 7)

(St. John’s, NL), September 29, 2017 – The RNC is partnering with the Consumers’ Health Awareness Network Newfoundland and Labrador (CHANNAL) to promote Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). MIAW, which this year runs from October 1st to October 7th, is an annual national public education campaign designed to raise awareness and end the stigma associated with mental illness.

On Monday, October 2nd, Chief Boland will promote MIAW at RNC Headquarters. He will welcome Paula Corcoran-Jacobs, Provincial Executive Director of CHANNAL, who will be giving a presentation on the mandate of CHANNAL and services that it provides to the community and the RNC. The RNC acknowledges the important role of CHANNAL in educating the public on issues relevant to mental health and offering advocacy, social and emotional support to mental health consumers.

Mental illness is a complex issue that requires a collaborative response. The RNC is committed to working with our community stakeholders to eliminate stigma and discrimination towards those living with mental health issues and is proud to participate in Mental Illness Awareness Week.
