More Historical Sexual Violence Charges Laid in St. John’s

(St. John’s, NL), September 14, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division has laid more charges in connection with an investigation into sexual violence involving youth in St. John’s.

On Wednesday (Sept. 13), 62-year-old Anthony HUMBY was charged with sex offences related to two additional cases of sexual violence upon youth. HUMBY appeared in Provincial Court today (Sept. 14) on two counts of sexual assault, sexual exploitation and sexual interference.

The investigation began in November of 2022 when RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) received a report related to historical sexual violence by an adult upon youth in St. John’s. The RNC assembled a Major Case Management Team to investigate the report. In total, HUMBY faces 28 charges, and 80-year-old Bruce ESCOTT faces 10 charges. Both men remain in custody facing sexual violence charges related to seven youth and two young adult complainants.

As this investigation remains active, the RNC continues to seek any information related to acts of sexual violence and the exploitation of youth.
