Arrest Made in Waterford Valley Homicide

(St. John’s, NL), March 12, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit (MCU) wish to report that an arrest has been made in connection with Waterford Valley Homicide in St. John’s.

On Sunday, May 30, 2021, members of the RNC responded to the area of Waterford Valley in St. John’s after a deceased man was found in the area. The man was located near a trail, which runs between Waterford Bridge Road and Topsail Road. Following consultations with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the death of the 68-year-old male, later identified as Michael King, from St. John’s was determined to be homicide.

After an extensive investigation, the RNC MCU issued a Canada-wide warrant of arrest for 26-year-old Sheldon Sean HIBBS in relation to the murder of Michael King. At that time the whereabouts of HIBBS was unknown.

On March 11, 2022, shortly after 2:00 pm, the RNC received information from members of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) that wanted person, Sheldon Sean HIBBS, had been located. The RNC and CPS quickly worked to confirm the identity of HIBBS, who was subsequently placed under arrest for the murder of Michael King.

Sheldon Sean HIBBS will be transported to St. John’s under the supervision of the RNC’s MCU and held to appear before a judge on the charge of murder.
