Man Charged With Sexual Violence

(St. John’s, NL), July 16, 2024 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has arrested a man in relation to sexual violence involving youth.

On Friday (July 12) shortly after 2 p.m., the RNC received information related to sexual violence of a young person that has been ongoing in Mount Pearl. The victim and the accused were known to one another. The Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit (CASA) was engaged to investigate the report.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., a man was placed under arrest in connection with this investigation. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court in relation to charges of assault, sexual assault, assault causing bodily harm, sexual interference and incest.

The CASA Unit investigates the most sensitive of matters which include assaults against children and sexual assaults. Members of this unit are skilled investigators that use a trauma-informed, victim-centred approach that prioritizes the safety and well-being of all individuals. All survivors of sexual violence are encouraged to reach out for help from a trusted resource as soon as it is safe to do so.
