No Injuries in Labrador City Apartment Fire

(Labrador City, NL) June 26, 2024 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) has deemed a fire in Labrador City accidental due to an electrical malfunction.

Emergency crews responded to an apartment complex on Avalon Drive around 8:45 p.m. last night (June 25). The fire caused extensive damage to the basement, however, was contained to one unit in the building.

Occupants were able to evacuate without injury and have been provided alternative accommodations by the Iron Ore Company of Canada.

Residents in the region are being impacted by power outages due to ongoing forest fires. The RNC is reminding those without power to help prevent electrical fires by:

  • Unplugging electronics
  • Turning off large appliances
  • Turning thermostats or air conditioning units to the lowest settings or turn them off
  • Keeping just one light on so you know when power has been restored.
