RNC Searching for Driver in Pedestrian Collision

(St. John’s, NL), May 25, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is looking for the driver involved in a vehicle/pedestrian collision this afternoon.

This afternoon, at approximately 1:50 pm, officers with RNC Patrol Services Division responded to a reported motor vehicle/pedestrian collision at the intersection of Bennett Ave and Lemarchant Road in St. John’s. A 77 year old woman was crossing Lemarchant Road at the Bennett Ave intersection when a driver headed south on Bennett Ave attempted to make a right turn onto Lemarchant Road and collided with the woman.

The driver, who was described only as man possibly in his 60’s stopped to check on the woman however the pedestrian did not get his contact information. The woman could only describe the vehicle as a blue 4-door vehicle. We do not have any information to suggest that the driver left the scene to internationally avoid providing his information, but rather that the two parties simply did not exchange information.

The woman was transported to hospital and treated for her injuries. Investigators are looking for anybody who may have witnessed the collision and the driver himself, to contact the RNC at 709-729-8000.
