UPDATE: RNC Investigating the Discovery of Human Remains

(St. John’s, NL), May 31, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit is investigating the discovery of human remains in the Mount Scio Road Area of St. John’s.

Yesterday evening, just before 9:00pm, RNC officers with Patrol Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Identification Services responded to a wooded area near Mount Scio Road to a report that an individual had discovered what appeared to be human remains.

Based on consultations with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and preliminary evidence, officers have determined that this death does not appear to be suspicious in nature. An identification has not been made at this point, and the investigation is ongoing.
