RNC Charge Man with Impaired Driving in Labrador West

(St. John’s, NL), October 30, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) in Labrador West have charged a 41 year old Quebec man with impaired driving.

On Saturday, October 28, 2017 just after 11:00 AM, a patrol officer based in Labrador City was conducting routine patrols on Rt. 500 between Labrador and Quebec boarder when he observed a vehicle travelling nearly 150km/h in a  posted 80km/h zone. A traffic safety stop was initiated by the officer, at which time the officer determined that in addition to the high rate of speed, the driver also appeared to be impaired by alcohol.

The 41 year old Quebec resident was arrested and taken to RNC’s Labrador West detachment for a breathalyzer test. The man was subsequently charged with Impaired Driving and Impaired Driving Over 80mg/100ml under the Criminal Code. The man was released and will appear at Provincial Court in Wabush on December 11, 2017.

Additionally, man’s vehicle was impounded under new provincial legislation and he was also given several tickets under the Highway Traffic Act.
