RNC Investigating Homicide

(St. John’s, NL), November 14, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit is investigating a homicide following the discovery of a woman’s body on Saturday morning in St. John’s.

On Saturday, November 11, 2017, at approximately 8:20 am, officers with RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Police Dog Services, and Forensic Identification Services, responded to a report that a deceased female was discovered by a member of the public in the area of O’Brien Farm on Oxen Pond Road in St. John’s.

Late this afternoon, the province’s Chief Medical Examiner completed an autopsy of the woman and has concluded that her death was a homicide. We have identified the 36 year old woman as Victoria Head of St. John’s. No further information on the woman’s cause of death will be released at this time.

While the body of Victoria Head was discovered in an isolated area of Oxen Pond Road it has not yet been determined whether or not this is where the murder occurred. It is believed that Victoria Head was last seen in the area of Queens Road in St. John’s sometime during the early morning hours of Saturday, November 11, 2017.

Over the last several days, substantial investigative resources have been deployed in this investigation. As a result of new information received today, investigators now believe that Victoria Head may have been involved in the sex trade industry, which may be connected to her murder.

While there is no evidence to directly suggest that there is a threat to the public’s safety, the RNC is warning people in the downtown area of St. John’s, and those who are involved in the sex trade industry, to be extra vigilant and to contact police with any information they may have that could assist investigators with this murder investigation. The RNC will be increasing police presence in various downtown areas effective tonight.

The RNC is offering its sincerest condolences to the Head family at this very difficult time.

Anyone with information on the homicide of Victoria HEAD is asked to call the RNC at 709-729-8000, the Major Crime Unit’s Homicide Tip Line at 709-729-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
