RNC Investigating Armed Robbery

(St. John’s, NL), November 17, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) General Investigation Unit is seeking the public’s assistance identifying the male responsible for an armed robbery at a jewelry store.

Yesterday evening, just before 9:30pm, officers with RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Police Dog Services and Forensic Identification Services, responded to a report of an armed robbery at Charm Diamond Center in the Village Shopping Center on Topsail Road in St. John’s. Information received by police was that a male, armed with a firearm and a large hammer, entered the shopping center and that he had discharged the firearm. When officers had arrived it was determined that the weapon had not been discharged and the hammer had been used to smash glass jewelry cases inside of the jewelry store.

The male suspect is described as being 5’5” with a slim build and had his face concealed during the robbery. The suspect fled the area in a four-door red older model car toward the area of Topsail Road from Columbus Drive. While there were no injuries during this robbery, investigators have learned that bystanders who were in the shopping center at the time, confronted the suspect as he was trying to flee at which point the suspect pointed the firearm at them in an effort to escape. We are again warning the public to never attempt to intervene during an armed robbery.

Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who has dash-cams or who witnessed anything suspicious in the area of the rear parking lot (near Klondike Jake’s) of the Village Shopping Center before or after this robbery.

Anyone with information on this armed robbery is asked to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
