Statement by Chief Boland Regarding ASIRT Investigation

(St. John’s, NL), December 4, 2017 – “Recently, the RNC was made aware of an incident that is alleged to have occurred in May of 2017 involving an on-duty officer during the course of their duties. I notified the Department of Justice and Public Safety and requested that an outside agency conduct the investigation into the complaint.  The Department of Justice and Public Safety subsequently requested the assistance of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).

As this is now an active investigation by ASIRT and not by the RNC, I am not able to provide any details on the nature of the complaint or identity of those involved. The officer in question has been temporarily placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the ASIRT investigation. I take any allegation of misconduct involving one of my officers very seriously, and have committed the full co-operation of the RNC to ASIRT.”

RNC Chief Joseph Boland
