16th Annual Newfoundland and Labrador Police and Peace Officer’s Memorial

(ST. JOHN’S, NL) September 28, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) wishes to recognize the upcoming Newfoundland and Labrador Police and Peace Officer’s Memorial.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Association (NLPPOMA) will host the Annual Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Ceremony and Parade at the Memorial Monument Site outside the Confederation Building (East Block), in St. John’s at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 30, 2018. In the event of inclement weather the NLPPOM ceremony will be held in the lobby of the Confederation Building.

This Ceremony and Parade coincides with similar parades all across the country, perhaps the most notable of which will take place in Ottawa. This year 25 current and retired members from the RNC Honour Guard will be representing the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary at the Memorial Service in Ottawa.

On May 23, 2003 the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador officially proclaimed the last Sunday in September of every year as Newfoundland and Labrador Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial Day. Newfoundland and Labrador has its own organization dedicated to honour the memory of police and peace officers who have died in the line of duty. Currently, the names of 20 officers are etched on our Provincial Memorial in St. John’s.  On behalf of the Memorial Association, an invitation is extended to the general public to attend this solemn occasion.
