RNC Participate in Operation: IMPACT

(St. John’s, NL), October 9, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services Division participated in Operation: Impact over the Thanksgiving Day Weekend.

The RNC, in partnership with RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador, and Mount Pearl Municipal Enforcement, participated in Operation: Impact, an annual fall traffic enforcement blitz aimed at raising awareness to dangerous driving behaviour on our province’s roads. Over the weekend, RNC and its partners (on the Northeast Avalon, Corner Brook Region, and Labrador West) issued over 200 Summary Offence Tickets (SOTs) under the Highway Traffic Act, most notably for speeding. Several vehicles were impounded under newly strengthened traffic laws for exceeding the posted speed limit by 50km/h or more: Two vehicles were impounded for driving 151 km/h & 171km/h on the Outer Ring Road in St. John’s and another on the TCH at 161km/h.

The RNC is again reminding the motoring public that the real cost of careless driving behaviours on our roadways are the life changing injuries and deaths that result because of motor vehicle collisions. Remaining focused on improving highway safety is a key objective within the RNC’s 2018-2021 Corporate Plan and our team continues to work toward compliance through education and enforcement.
