RNC Release Video from Break and Enter

(St. John’s, NL), November 9, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) General Investigation Unit is seeking the public’s assistance identifying the man and woman responsible for a break and entry at a business in  St. John’s.

On Thursday, November 8, 2018, at approximately 2:30 am, the RNC responded to a report of a break and entry in progress at Legend City on Hamlyn Road in St. John’s. When responding officers arrived, they discovered that the front window had been smashed out. CCTV footage obtained by investigators from the business show a man and a woman get out of a black Jeep, smash the window of the store and enter the business, stealing most of its contents. Investigators believe this is the same man and woman involved two similar thefts at Arthur James recently (reference recent media release.)

Investigators have confirmed that the black Jeep Compass (North Edition) that was used in these break and entries was stolen recently from a St. John’s area dealership. The Jeep was located in the area of Grove’s Rd destroyed by fire around noon yesterday. CCTV footage obtained from a nearby gas station, shows a female passenger exiting the stolen Jeep with her face covered minutes before the vehicle was set on fire nearby. The female is seen approaching an older model grey Pontiac G6 4-door with a male passenger who is seen purchasing gas in a gas can and proceeds in the same direction as the Jeep.

Investigators are seeking information on the identities of the male and female seen in the Jeep committing break and entries as well as information on the Pontiac G6 that may be connected with the arson of the stolen Jeep. We are again warning the public that procession of stolen property is a criminal offence. Anyone found to be in possession of any merchandise stolen in these break and entries could be charged criminally.

The General Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate this break and entry and is asking anyone who has information to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at: www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
