RNC Investigating Weapons Offence

(St. John’s, NL), December 28, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s (RNC) Major Crime Unit is investigating a weapons offence that occurred on Petty Harbour Road in St. John’s.

This morning, just before 1:00 am, officers with RNC Operational Patrol Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division, and Forensic Identification Services responded to a residence on Petty Harbour Road in St. John’s to a report that shots had been fired inside a home.

When officers arrived, they located an 18 year old man who sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of a firearm being discharged. The man was transported to the hospital where he remains in stable condition.

A 15 year old youth was arrested in relation to the incident and charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm with intent, and multiple weapons related offences. Investigators are pursuing leads on other suspects at this time. The suspects and the victim are known to each other and this does not appear to be a random act of violence.

The investigation to this incident is ongoing. Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who may have information to assist in this investigation.
