RNC Request Assistance in Confinement Investigation

(ST. JOHN’S, NL), April 26, 2019 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit is seeking the public’s assistance investigating an incident of unlawful confinement in St. John’s.

On the morning of April 21, 2019, shortly after 3:00 am, a woman was leaving the downtown area of St. John’s. The woman accepted an offer for transportation from two non-white men operating what is described to be an older model minivan. Although she was not assaulted, the men did not allow the woman to exit the vehicle, and she was forced to escape. The woman proceeded to report the incident to the police.

The RNC’s Major Crime Unit are actively investigating this matter, and are asking members of the public and businesses in the downtown area to check CCTV and dash camera footage between 3:00 am and 4:00 am in the downtown area on April 21, 2019. Members of the public should exercise caution and contact the RNC to report any suspicious activity.
