RNC Investigating Downtown Homicide

(ST. JOHN’S, NL), November 7, 2019 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit (MCU) is investigating a homicide which occurred in downtown St. John’s.

On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at approximately 6:30 pm, RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS), Forensic Identification Section (FIS, Police Dog Service (PDS), and Criminal Investigation Division (CID) responded to an assault reported to have occurred in the area of Bond Street in St. John’s. On arrival, responding officers located a man outside a residence with serious injuries. The 23 year old man was promptly transported to a hospital, but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The office of the chief medical examiner has concluded the cause of death for the 23 year old man to be homicide.

The MCU have assembled a major case management team which is actively investigating this homicide. They are requesting assistance from the public with regards to dash camera, cell phone or CCTV footage in the Bond Street area between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm on November 5, 2019. Investigators do not believe this incident to be a random act of violence. Further updates will be provided at such a time that it does not hinder the investigation.
