RNC Investigating Homicide in Metro

(St. John’s, NL), April 3, 2020 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit (MCU) is investigating the sudden death of a 20 year old man in St. John’s.

On Thursday, April 2, 2020, at approximately 10:40 pm, members of the RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division responded to the area of Sunset Street, St. John’s, regarding a report that a stabbing had occurred. On arrival, responding officers located a man near a home on Sunset Street who had sustained serious injury. The man was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, however, a short time after arriving, the man was pronounced deceased. Investigators are working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.

The death of the 20 year old man is deemed to be suspicious, and the RNC MCU has assembled a Major Case Management team to effect the investigation. Investigators are actively canvassing for witnesses to the incident. At this stage we are unable to confirm as to whether this was a random or targeted incident. We ask that all suspicious activity in our community be reported to the police.

Investigators are looking for CCTV or dash camera footage in the area prior to the police response.
