RNC Investigating Assault on CBS Trail

(Conception Bay South, NL), August 16, 2020 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) are investigating an assault, which occurred on a trail in Conception Bay South (CBS).

On Saturday, August 15, 2020, at approximately 8:30 pm, members of RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a report of an assault that occurred on the trail system in CBS, between Topsail Beach and Topsail Bluff. A 24-year-old woman was approached from behind and assaulted by a man who was not known to her. The woman sustained non-life threatening injuries. The assault is believed to have occurred between 6:00 and 6:30 pm on Saturday evening.

The man responsible for this assault is described to be in his fifties, with short grey hair. He has an average build, and is approximately five feet and eight inches tall. He was wearing light colour cargo shorts with a royal blue short-sleeve shirt at the time of the assault.

The RNC has safety concerns for persons using trails in light of this random incident, and we strongly advise not travelling alone on trails until more information is available in connection with this investigation. We ask our community to report any suspicious person or activity immediately.
