RNC Investigating Pointing a Firearm in Metro

 (ST. JOHN’S, NL), September 2, 2020 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit (MCU) are investigating an incident of a person pointing a firearm in St. John’s, NL.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at approximately 8:30 pm., the RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a report of a person pointing a firearm in the area of Southlands Community Center in St. John’s. Officers were informed that a man had pointed a firearm at another man following a disruption in traffic on Tuesday evening.

Initially the suspect was operating a black Toyota Camry sedan from Pitts Memorial Drive to the area of Southlands Community Center. The man left the area after an interaction, returning a short time later in a full-size red pick-up truck, which appeared to be a recent model. It was while operating the red pick-up truck that the man pointed the firearm. It is believed that the suspect left the area in the direction of Cheeseman Drive following the incident.

The suspect is a white man, possibly in his 40’s, with grey hair balding in the middle, and stubble hair on his face. He has a medium build, and is approximately six feet tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing black shorts and grey or navy T-shirt.
