RNC Searching for Suspect of Armed Robberies

(St. John’s, NL), April 1, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) General Investigation Unit (GIU) are investigating four armed robberies in the metro region in just over a 24 hour time frame.

At approximately 4:30 am on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, officers of the RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) and Police Dog Service (PDS) responded to a robbery at a service station on Torbay Road in St. John’s. A man entered the business and demanded cash and cigarettes. The man fled on foot after obtaining some cash and cigarettes.

This morning, at around 4:45 am, OPS and PDS responded to a robbery in St. John’s, which was reported to have just occurred at a service station on Elizabeth Avenue. A man entered the store and demanded cash and cigarettes. He proceeded to flee after obtaining the items.

At 5:20 am, a man, believed to be the same suspect from the former incident, entered a service station on Stavanger Drive. This time, the suspect presented a weapon while demanding cash and cigarettes, again fleeing the area on foot after obtaining items. A short time later, officers responded to an armed robbery at a service station on Portugal Cove Road involving a suspect believed to be the same individual, again presenting a weapon while demanding cash and cigarettes. The man fled the area after exiting the business.

The suspect is described to be a man in his thirties, has short and messy black hair and a bit of stubble facial hair. He was about five feet and nine inches tall with an average build. During the incidents on April 1, 2021, the suspect was wearing a black and grey Adidas windbreaker jacket, dark jeans, brown shoes, and a multi-coloured fabric face mask. The RNC GIU believe there to be a link in the incidents on April 1, 2021, and continue to investigate each event.
