RNC Lay Charges Following Labrador West Weapons Offence

(St. John’s, NL), August 12, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Labrador West Detachment have charged two men with weapons offences following an incident last weekend.

On Saturday, August 7, 2021, at approximately 10:30 pm, RNC patrol officers responded to a report of a weapons offence at a residence in Labrador City. On arrival, officers communicated with the occupants of the home, and confirmed a firearm had been discharged inside the home. There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

As a result of an investigation in to the event, two men have been charged with multiple weapons offences. An 18-year-old man from Labrador City has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and contravention of storage. A 62-year-old man from Labrador City has been charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, contravention of storage, and reckless discharge of a firearm. Both men were released to appear in Provincial Court on a later date.
