RNC Mounted Unit Welcome Two Newfoundland Ponies

(St. John’s, NL), August 19, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Mounted Unit is proud to welcome two Newfoundland Ponies to compliment the Equine Therapy Program.

Today we are honoured to welcome two Newfoundland Ponies to the RNC Mounted Unit. Dixie H Cara’s Midnight and Katie’s Rose of Avalon will be integrated in to the Equine Therapy Program, giving them the opportunity to continue to support the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

“The Newfoundland Pony is an endangered breed and these ponies are Newfoundland’s only official Heritage Animal. They were once essential to the survival of early Newfoundlanders, vital in our everyday life. Now we are calling on them to assist in our Mental Health and well-being. We believe this will be a perfect utilization of these Newfoundland treasures. We look forward to learning more of their personalities and integrating them in to our programs.”

Chief Patrick Roche, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary

The RNC continues to progress its safety and wellness strategy, sending heartfelt gratitude to the community partners who are so dedicated to building safe and healthy communities together.
