RNC Make Arrest In Peaceful Conclusion

(St. John’s, NL), September 1, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) arrested a male after a lengthy containment of a residence in the capital city on Saturday.

On Saturday, September 11, 2021, at approximately 3:55 pm, officers with RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a report of an assault in progress at a residence on Campbell Avenue in St. John’s. Responding officers were informed that a male was inside the residence with a firearm. On arrival, multiple police units promptly contained the residence to ensure the potentially armed occupant, a 37-year-old male from St. John’s, could not leave the property.

Officers on scene were able to contact four other residents of the home, who were able to exit the residence without incident. RNC engaged specialized services to initiate communication with the male suspect inside the home, and continued containment of the scene.

At approximately 12:20 am, September 12, 2021, the 37-year-old man exited the home and was placed under arrest without incident. He was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and other weapons related offences. The male was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
