RNC Lay Charges in Relation to Sexual Violence

(St. John’s, NL), December 3, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit have laid charges in connection with an incident of sexual violence in St. John’s.

On June 16, 2021, the RNC Operational Patrol Services responded to a report of a sexual assault at a residence in the east end of St. John’s. Responding officers were informed of a suspected incident of sexual violence in December of 2020 involving a youth victim. The RNC CASA Unit were engaged to launch an investigation in to the report.

As a result of the investigation in to the incident, on December 1, 2021, an 18-year-old male from St. John’s was arrested and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference. The accused was a youth at the time of the offence, and has been released from custody to appear in Provincial Court on a later date.
