RNC Lay Charges in Operation Riptide

(ST. JOHN’S, NL), December 17, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Drug Investigation Unit in partnership with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have made an arrest in connection with Operation Riptide.

On Wednesday evening, December 2, 2020, officers with the RNC Drug Investigative Unit and the RCMP attended St. John’s International Airport and seized 13.7 kilograms of cocaine, as well as 4500 blots of acid.

As a result of a continued investigation in to the event, investigators with the RNC Drug Investigation Unit have arrested and charged 27-year-old Michael RUMSBY from British Columbia. The accused has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking in connection with cocaine and Lysergic Acid Diethylamine (LSD). The accused has been released to appear in Provincial Court on a later date.
