RNC Lay Charges Regarding Historical Sexual Violence

(St. John’s, NL), January 26, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit have laid charges in connection with sexual violence believed to have occurred from 2013 to 2015.

In January of 2022, the RNC Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit received a report in relation to a historical events of sexual violence, which is believed to have occurred in St. John’s from 2013 to 2015. The report indicated a youth male engaged in sexual violence upon children. The RNC CASA Unit launched an investigation in to the events.

As a result of an investigation in to the report, on January 14, 2022, a 20-year-old male from St. John’s, who was a youth at the time of the offences, was arrested and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, and invitation to sexual touching. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court in relation to the mater.
