RNC Make Arrests in Weapons Offence in CBS

(St. John’s, NL), March 23, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services (OPS), Major Crime Unit (MCU) and Street Crimes Unit (SCU) made arrests following the report of a weapons offence in Conception Bay South (CBS).

On Sunday, March 12, 2022, at approximately 1:27 am, officers with the RNC OPS responded to a report of a weapons offence in the area of Foxtrap Access Road in CBS. Police learned that a male had been observed in the area of Foxtrap Access Road with a handgun, and had since left the area in a taxi.

RNC OPS acted quickly and were able to locate the taxi, conducting a traffic stop without incident. The individuals in the taxi were taken into custody. A search incident to arrest resulted in the discovery and seizure of two handguns and ammunition.

As a result of the investigation in to the event, 29-year-old James TYSON from CBS was arrested on an outstanding warrant, along with charges related to this incident. James TYSON was held to appear before a judge on the following eleven charges:

  • Pointing a firearm
  • Carrying a concealed firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Unauthorized use of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Obstruction
  • Breach of Release Order
  • Fail to attend court

Through the investigation that followed, the RNC SCU, in consultation with the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST), determined that additional charges would be laid.

On March 22, 2022 a second arrest was made in connection with the event as 39-year-old Justin JENNINGS of CBS was taken into custody without incident and held to appear before a judge on the following ten charges:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a weapon obtained by the commission of an offence
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to order
