RNC Traffic Stop Results in Arrest in Metro

(St. John’s, NL), April 22, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services (OPS) made an arrest following a traffic safety stop in St. John’s overnight.

On Friday, April 22, 2022, just after 1:00 pm, RNC OPS attempted to conduct a traffic safety stop with a vehicle travelling near the Blackmarsh Road roundabout in St. John’s. The vehicle initially failed to stop for police, but did comply with the traffic safety stop approximately a kilometer away on Redmond’s Road. The patrol officer determined that the driver was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license, and there was a warrant in effect for their arrest.

As a result of an investigation in to this event, a 48-year-old male from St. John’s was arrested and charged with flight from police and breach of court order. He was also issued summary offence tickets for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and operating an unregistered vehicle. The vehicle was impounded in relation to the Highway Traffic Act infractions. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court on the noted charges, as well as the warrant of arrest.
