RNC Make Arrest Following Downtown Robbery

(St. John’s, NL), May 4, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) made an arrest following a robbery in downtown St. John’s overnight.

On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at approximately 4:15 am, RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) and Police Dog Service (PDS) responded to a report of an armed robbery at a hotel on Water Street in St. John’s. A male suspect approached the reception desk with a weapon, demanding cash. The male fled on foot without obtaining any cash, travelling west on Water Street. Responding officers located the male a short time later in the downtown area, taking him in to custody without incident.

As a result of an investigation in to the event, a 34-year-old male form St. John’s was charged with robbery and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
