RNC Investigating Fatal Collision on Southern Shore Highway

(St. John’s, NL), May 25, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Accident Investigation Division are investigating a fatal collision which occurred on the Southern Shore Highway yesterday morning.

On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at approximately 10:30 am, RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a motor vehicle collision on the Southern Shore Highway, near Middle Pond, in St. John’s. Responding officers determined that a vehicle travelling South and a vehicle travelling North had collided in the area. The collision resulted in subsequent damage to a third vehicle that had also been travelling North.

The operator of the vehicle travelling North, a 78-year-old male from Mobile, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The passenger of that vehicle, a 75 year-old female, was taken to the Health Sciences Center (HSC) to be treated for serious injuries. The male operator of the vehicle traveling South was also taken to the HSC to be treated for minor injury.

The RNC Accident investigation Division (AID) continues to investigate this event and request that anyone with information, or with video footage in the area around the time of the collision, contact the RNC. The RNC extends gratitude to St. John’s Regional Fire Department, Avalon Towing and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for their support following this event.
