RNC Focused on Aggressive Driving and Modifications This Summer

(St. John’s, NL), June 29, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Traffic Services and Operational Patrol Services will collaborate this summer to curb aggressive driving and illegal vehicle modifications.

As we welcome the summer months here in Newfoundland and Labrador, we certainly anticipate leisure travel through our communities and highways to increase, as well as increased presence of children out and about. With this in mind, there are many considerations for motorists across the province to ensure this summer is a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

Impaired driving and aggressive driving behaviours, such as speeding, distracted driving, and stunting continue to put our communities at risk. In addition, it is evident that illegal vehicular modifications with the purpose of increasing noise output remain present on our roads.

The RNC Traffic Services and Operational Patrol Services (OPS) will collaborate through the summer in order to effect traffic safety operations throughout our communities. These officers will partner with Highway Enforcement Officers in order to inspect roadworthiness and to detect illegal motor vehicle modifications.

The goal of the RNC’s traffic safety initiative is simple, to instill the concept that you are responsible for every life in your community when you operate a motor vehicle, not just your own. The Criminal Code of Canada, the NL Highway Traffic Act, and related legislation, guide the RNC’s effort to protect the safety and security of our communities. Lastly, if you observe a vehicle checkpoint, please do not post about it on social media, as this allows offenders to continue to put our communities at risk.

The RNC request that anyone who observes impaired or aggressive driving, or illegal vehicle modifications, contact the RNC at 729-8000 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers: #SayItHere 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), visit www.nlcrimestoppers.com or use the P3Tips app.
