RNC Seize Multiple Vehicles throughout Province

(St. John’s, NL), December 8, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) laid a number of Criminal Code charges and Highway Traffic Act violations which resulted in multiple vehicle seizures throughout the province yesterday.

On Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 1:30 pm RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) in Corner Brook conducted a traffic safety stop in the Broadway area. The officer determined the vehicle was being operated without a valid insurance policy. The driver was issued a summary offence ticket under the Highway Traffic Act. The vehicle was seized and impounded from the scene.

At 2:45 pm RNC, Operational Patrol Services (OPS) in St. John’s conducted a traffic safety stop in the area of Kenmount Rd. The officer determined the driver failed to transfer ownership and was operating the vehicle without a valid insurance policy. The driver was issued multiple summary offence tickets under the Highway Traffic Act. The vehicle was seized and impounded from the scene.

At 10:20 pm RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) in St. John’s located a stolen vehicle in the area of Blackmarsh Rd. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver struck the police unit with the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, police arrested a 41-year-old male. He was charged with possession of property obtained by crime, assault on a peace officer, failure to stop at the scene of a collision, resisting arrest and multiple breaches of his release order. The male was also operating the vehicle with a suspended licence as well as $28,000 in fines. The male was held to appear in provincial court.

At 11:00 pm RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) in Labrador West conducted a traffic safety stop with a vehicle in the area of Hudson Drive, Labrador City. As a result of the traffic stop an 18-year-old male was issued a 7-day driving suspension due to impaired driving. His vehicle was seized and impounded from the scene.
