RNC Investigation of Sudden Death Results in Manslaughter Charge

(St. John’s, NL), March 8, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit (MCU) have laid a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of a 55-year-old female in February of 2022.

On January 2, 2022, RNC Operational Patrol Services responded to a residence on Hunt’s Lane in St. John’s following a report of a disturbance. On arrival, officers located a 55-year-old female with a serious injury. The female was transported by ambulance to the Health Science Centre to obtain medical assistance.

On February 24, 2022, the 55-year-old female succumbed to complications resulting from the injury received on January 2. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the death of the female was homicide.

As a result of an investigation carried out by the RNC Major Crime Unit, a 27-year-old male from St. John’s has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the homicide. The accused was known to the deceased. The 27-year-old male has been released to appear on the charges in Provincial Court on April 13, 2023.
