RNC Lay Charge of Attempted Murder in Connection with Violent Attack in Corner Brook

(Corner Brook, NL), March 9, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Corner Brook Detachment, have made an arrest following a violent attack, which occurred on March 3, 2023.

On March 3, 2023, at approximately 7:30 p.m., RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) were alerted to an injured male in the lobby of the RNC detachment on University Drive in Corner Brook. Officers located a male in the lobby with serious injuries, believed to be caused by an edged weapon. The 57-year-old male was taken by ambulance to Western Memorial Regional Hospital to seek medical attention.

The RNC Criminal Investigation Division (CID), supported by Forensic Identification Services and OPS, launched an investigation in to the event. Officers determined that this was targeted attack, and did not perceive a risk to the community as a whole. Investigators believe the 57-year-old male victim had sustained injuries from more than one edged weapon during a violent attack, which occurred in the area of Beothuk Crescent in Corner Brook.

As a result of the investigation in to the event, 32-year-old Evan LONG of Corner Brook was arrested in St. John’s on March 8, 2023, and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. LONG Appeared in Provincial Court in Corner Brook by phone, and remains in custody for a bail hearing on Friday, March 10, 2023.
