RNC Traffic Stop Leads to Impaired Driving Charges

(St. John’s, NL), March 28, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services Division laid charges related to impaired operation of a motor vehicle following a traffic safety stop in St. John’s last night.

On Monday, March 27, 2023, at approximately 9:05 pm, the RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed in the area of Thorburn Road in St. John’s. The patrol unit conducted a traffic safety stop with the vehicle a short time later.

As a result of an investigation in to the event, the operator of the vehicle, a 38-year-old male from Portugal Cove – St. Phillips, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle while over 80 mg of alcohol. The vehicle was impounded from the scene. The accused was released to appear in Provincial Court on a later date.
