RNC Seize Vehicle Following Traffic Stop

(St. John’s, NL), April 4, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) seized a vehicle following a traffic stop in Portugal Cove – St. Phillip’s (PC-SP) last night.

On Monday, April 3, 2023, at approximately 11:15 pm, the RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) were conducting patrols in the Old Broad Cove Road area of PC-SP. The patrol officer observed an oncoming vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, in excess of 120 km/h in a 40km/h zone. The patrol officer conducted a traffic safety stop with the vehicle in the area of Windsor Lake.

As a result of the investigation, the 18-year-old operator of the vehicle was issued a summary offence ticket under the Highway Traffic Act for speeding in excess of 51 km/h, a seven-day driving suspension, and his vehicle was impounded from the scene.
