RNC Make Another Arrest in Connection with Attempted Murder

(St. John’s, NL), April 19, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) have made another arrest connected to an attack at a St. John’s school on March 9, 2023.

On March 9, 2023, just before noon, RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS), Forensic Identifications Services (FIS), Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Police Dog Service (PDS) responded to a report of an assault that had just occurred at Prince of Wales Collegiate high school on Paton Street in St. John’s. A 16-year-old male had sustained serious injuries and required medical attention.

The RNC CID assembled a Major Case Management Team to investigate the event, which has resulted in multiple arrests of individuals involved in the attack.

On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, the investigative team made an additional arrest in connection with the event. A 17-year-old male from St. John’s is charged with the following offences:

  • Attempted murder (party to the offence)
  • Assault with a weapon (party to the offence)
  • Aggravated assault
  • Failure to comply with a youth sentence order

The accused is held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
