RNC Investigating Suspicious Death in St. John’s

(St. John’s, NL), May 1, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) are investigating a suspicious death, which occurred in St. John’s.

On Sunday, April 30, 2023, at approximately 1:30 am, officers with RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) located an injured male lying on the ground in the area of Sebastian Court in St. John’s. The officers immediately requested that an ambulance attend the scene as they assessed injuries in order to provide support to the male. The male was transported to a hospital by ambulance department where he was pronounced deceased.

The RNC CID assembled a Major Case Management Team to investigate the suspicious death of the 25-year-old male from St. John’s. Officers maintained a scene in the area of Sebastian Court in connection with the investigation. The RNC will work with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the male’s cause of death.

A Major Case Management Team represents a thorough, standardized and systematic process to investigation. Principles of major case management include delineation of investigative roles and tasks with oversight, coordination and management.

Investigators are seeking any witnesses or video footage in the area of downtown St. John’s surrounding Sebastian Court from midnight to 2:00 am on Sunday, April 30. Although the investigation is in its early stages, it is believed that the events resulting in this suspicious death were not random.
