Suspicious Death in St. John’s Ruled Homicide

(St. John’s, NL), May 2, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division (CID), in consultation with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), have ruled the death of a 25-year-old male from St. John’s a homicide.

On Sunday, April 30, 2023, at approximately 1:30 am, officers with RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) located an injured male lying on the ground in the area of Sebastian Court in St. John’s. The officers immediately requested that an ambulance attend the scene as they assessed injuries in order to provide support to the male. The male was transported to a hospital by ambulance department where he was pronounced deceased.

The RNC CID assembled a Major Case Management Team to investigate the death of the 25-year-old male from St. John’s. Following consultation with the OCME, the RNC CID are investigating the death as a homicide. The investigation is active, with no arrests at this stage. The events leading to this homicide are not believed to be random.

A Major Case Management Team represents a thorough, standardized and systematic process to investigation. Principles of major case management include delineation of investigative roles and tasks with oversight, coordination and management.

Investigators are seeking any information, witnesses or video footage in the area of downtown St. John’s surrounding Sebastian Court from midnight to 2:00 am on Sunday, April 30.
