RNC Arrest Wanted Person After Brief Chase

(St. John’s, NL), May 17, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) arrested a wanted person in the downtown area of St. John’s after a brief foot chase.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at approximately 3:20 am, the RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) observed a wanted person exit a home on Queen’s Road and get into a taxi. The officer conducted a traffic top with the taxi, at which time the wanted person exited the taxi and fled on foot. The officer exited their police vehicle and pursued the subject on foot in the area of the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s. The responding officer took the wanted person into custody in a nearby parking lot a short time later.

As a result of this event, in addition to the 28-year-old male from St. John’s being arrested regarding an arrest warrant, he was charged with resisting arrest. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
