RNC Make Arrest Related to Impaired Driving in Downtown of Capital

(St. John’s, NL), July 26, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) made an arrest overnight in connection with impaired driving and other offences.

On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 2:50 am, RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) observed a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction on Balsam Street, St. John’s, which is a one-way road. The patrol officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the vehicle; however, the vehicle did not comply. The vehicle continued to travel west on Livingstone Street toward the intersection with Carter’s Hill, where the vehicle stopped and the male driver exited, fleeing on foot. RNC patrol officers located the male a short distance away from the vehicle, taking him into custody without incident.

As a result of the subsequent investigation, the 46-year-old male operating the vehicle was charged with impaired driving, refusal to provide a breath sample, driving while prohibited, flight from police, and obstruction of justice. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court in connection with the charges.

The RNC requests that anyone with information to assist this investigation contact the RNC at 709-729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com or use the P3Tips app #SayItHere
